Job Description Summary

Advises, empowers, and serves as a resource for the First in the Forest (Pell students) community at Wake Forest University.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as a dedicated advisor for Pell students in the First in the Forest community; counsels students concerning course selection, extra-curricular pursuits, and involvement at Wake Forest.
  • Guides students in navigating challenges and connecting Pell students to appropriate on-campus resources.
  • Coordinates programming for Pell students designed to promote academic and personal success; foster community among Pell students; and increase student involvement on-campus.
  • Advises on-campus partners on tailoring their support for Pell students; provides opportunities for students to engage intentionally with other offices on campus.
  • Develops social media to build connections among and awareness of Wake Forest's first generation community.
  • Manage and help raise funds to support Pell eligible students.
  • May serve as a University representative and liaison to secondary schools and students and educate/update guidance professionals and prospective students concerning the University's support for Pell students.
  • Collects data and testimonials from students to better inform institutional support of the Pell student community.
  • Represents Wake Forest University at conferences and other engagements with external university and professional groups focused on Pell & first-generation students.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • BA/BS required, experience working in higher education preferred.
  • Knowledge of the additional challenges and stressors faced by low income students; interest in and dedication to raising awareness about these issues and supporting Pell students.
  • Knowledge of Wake Forest academic and extracurricular programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Knowledge of budget development and management.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, WordPress, the Internet and other relevant software.
  • Ability to travel if necessary.
  • Ability to meet requirements of the University's automobile insurance.
