Description

Director of Construction and Land Development 70-80K
Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County


Core Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage housing construction and repair programs for growing Habitat for Humanity affiliate, to include:
  • Develop and/or approve new house designs, site plans, remodel and repair standards
  • Evaluate and recommend new construction, remodel and repair methods and operations
  • Continue to investigate and implement construction technologies to improve energy efficiency, lower overall cost of ownership and maintenance for homeowners
  • Develop and oversee relationships with subcontractors, vendors, suppliers
  • Oversee construction budget and ensure overall cost efficiency of building program
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations and other guidelines to ensure highest quality and safety of construction
  • Promote innovation in energy efficiency designs and construction practices to meet or exceed NC System Vision standards
  • Develop and ensure construction operational efficiency to ensure that affiliate continues to grow the capacity to serve families, neighborhoods and communities
  • Oversee property acquisition and land development functions
  • Provide direct supervision of Construction Site Managers and overall supervision of construction staff and ensure accountability of staff in achieving goals
  • Develop training and operational strategies for staff and experienced volunteer leadership to grow volunteer capacity to meet growing needs
  • Provide ongoing accounting of construction costs to Executive Director and Director of Finance and Administration
  • Provide leadership representing the construction program on Management Team, the Board of Directors and various external constituencies
  • Seek continuous improvement in in construction operations and provide management team with strategies and recommendations to implement


Requirements
  • Strong construction knowledge, with demonstrated proficiency in residential building and renovation
  • Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, OSHA and other governmental regulations
  • Experience with energy-efficient construction techniques, with desired experience and/or interest in green-building, sustainability, weatherization techniques
  • Knowledge of budgets and financial management tools
  • Strong knowledge of local real estate market and land development issues
  • Understanding of affordable housing issues and strengths and challenges of low-wealth communities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; competent in basic Microsoft Office applications
  • Skilled in strategic thinking and planning, incorporating input from variety of groups
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, project management and administrative skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and with people of varied backgrounds
  • Commitment to core values of Habitat for Humanity, including service, collaboration, diversity, stewardship
  • Interest in networking with peers in construction field, including local Home Builders Association, other local/statewide groups, and Habitat for Humanity International


Educational and Certification Requirements
  • Current N.C. General Contractors License required
  • Minimum of associates degree in job-related or comparable field; bachelor's degree preferred
  • Additional certifications or continuing education reflecting recent trends in construction industry highly preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in construction and/or land development

Salary Description
  • 70,000-80,000
