Safety Specialist

Please Note: We are in the initial stages of sourcing candidates for this potential opportunity. We do not have an existing contract for this work. As required by our governmental client, this position requires being a US Citizen, a lawful resident alien, or a citizen of American Samoa or another territory owing permanent allegiance to the United States.

Safety Specialists will assist with compliance surveys of designated facilities and provide solutions and recommendations to ensure compliance, review, and assessment of the seven management areas: Safety, Fire Prevention, Emergency Management Hazardous Materials and Waste, Medical Equipment, Security, and Utilities.

  • Pay commensurate with experience.

Safety Specialist Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct comprehensive on-site building tours and assessments to identify deficiencies and potential corrective actions.
  • Identify Life Safety Code violations or areas that are non-compliant with the requirements.
  • Draft a Formal Trip Report for each Site Visit to identify shortcomings, deficiencies, and violations found with potential corrective actions.
  • Assist in reviewing and overseeing facilities projects designed to maintain, modernize and/or renovate existing facilities and construction of new facilities.
  • Provide recommendations to remedy shortcomings, deficiencies, and violations based on the Management of the Environment of Care standards.
  • Monitor and improve activities to include associated Management Plans and Annual Evaluations required by the Joint Commission as a result of facility surveys, reports based upon inspections, and personal interviews with management plan holders.
  • Provide continuing education and training on an environment of care Issues and Life Safety training.
  • Assist with revising and updating the fire plan to include all Life Safety and Fire Protection features and all technical data required by design engineers to assess specific Life Safety/Fire Safety design issues and identify firewalls/smoke barriers and Other Life Safety Features plan.
  • Additional duties include interpreting safety and health codes, standards, and regulations; conducting design reviews for new construction, building renovations, and new equipment/system procurements; managing site environmental and sustainability programs; implementing and managing site emergency planning and preparedness programs and maintaining technical proficiency to provide up-to-date guidance on regulatory standards and industry best practices.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Safety Specialist Experience, Education, Skills, and Abilities requested:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an applicable field and 10 years of experience conducting facility and safety assessments, including OSHA, NFPA, AHA, EPA, and ANSI regulations.
  • Medical facilities assessment experience is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret facility and site drawings (AutoCAD).
  • Knowledge of the Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals (CAMH).
  • Knowledge of the Joint Commission Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Ambulatory Care.
  • Certified Life Safety Specialist (CLSS-HC) for Health Care Facility Managers and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug screen and federal background check is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
