The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, located in Winston-Salem ("The City of the Arts), was the first state-supported, residential school of its kind in the nation. Established by the N.C. General Assembly in 1963, UNCSA opened in Winston-Salem in 1965 and became part of the University of North Carolina system in 1972. More than 1,200 students from middle school through graduate school train for careers in the arts in five professional schools: Dance, Design and Production (including a Visual Arts Program), Drama, Filmmaking, and Music. The University of North Carolina School of the Arts is the state's only public arts conservatory, dedicated entirely to the professional training of talent students in the performing, visual and moving image arts. The chancellor, deans, and faculty work with students in a residential setting to create an educational community that is intimate, demanding, and performance-centered. Learning is enriched by access to an academic program responsive to a conservatory curriculum. Position Summary
The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, School of Dance is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position in Ballet. The successful candidate will teach courses in all levels of ballet to students in both high school and undergraduate programs. In addition, they will be expected to teach from among the following: Pointe, Virtuosity (traditionally Men's Class), Partnering, Repertory, Dance History, Pedagogy, and Career Preparation. We also welcome Character Dance, Musical Theater, Composition, Improvisation, Anatomy, Choreography, and Contemporary Dance skills.

The School of Dance is a partner school with the Prix de Lausanne and the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP).
Description of Responsibilities and Duties
In addition to teaching responsibilities, this role involves several other duties, including but not limited to choreographing or staging work for UNCSA productions on an annual basis, advising students, writing letters of recommendation, participating in departmental administration, contributing to audition and recruiting efforts, and serving on school and campus-wide committees.
The School of Dance administration and faculty are dedicated to creating artistic enrichment and technical rigor in our students. The ideal candidate not only shares these goals, but also possesses the teaching and collaborative abilities to cultivate these ambitions in our students. The candidate will also help our students navigate and excel in an evolving field that presents increasing demands and challenges.
Required Qualifications
M.F.A./M.A. in dance, or equivalent performance background with a professional ballet company. A minimum of two to five years professional teaching experience, which may include conservatory, undergraduate, high school, or private studio is required. Experience and substantial knowledge of the classical ballet repertoire.
Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of 5 years of university and/ or pre-professional level teaching and experience with classical ballet methodology and pedagogy. A certificate of pedagogical ballet training is a plus.
Tenure Information UNCSA utilizes a multi-year contract system in lieu of tenure.
