Position Summary
The School of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for an Academic Professional: Assistant Professor position in Music Production and Technology to start August 1, 2024. We seek an artist and teacher with music industry experience, who is dedicated to working with students from diverse musical, social, and cultural backgrounds. The successful candidate will be a highly accomplished and versatile music producer, skilled in areas of music technology. They will demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate students and will fulfill duties and responsibilities commensurate with academic positions at a leading institution.
While the actual teaching load will depend on the strengths and interests of the successful candidate, this Professional Track faculty member is expected to teach coursework related to music production, beat-making, composition, songwriting, audio recording, sound design and synthesis, and/or other aspects of music creation and technology. Depending on strengths and interests of the successful candidate, the teaching load may include related areas like coaching band within a broad range of contemporary styles, and classes in video, game, or animation production.
As a member of the School of Music faculty, the Academic Professional: Assistant Professor in Music Production and Technology will contribute to ongoing equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives in the School. Review of applications will begin November 10, 2023 and continue until the position is filled. The position comes with an initial 2-year appointment and is renewable.

Professional-track faculty at UNCG have the possibility for standing for promotion from Academic Professional: Assistant Professor to Academic Professional: Associate Professor after five years of service and then from Academic Professional: Associate Professor to Academic Professional: Full Professor after another five years of service. Each promotion comes with a base salary increase. Professional-Track Faculty can request, at the time of hire, that years of service in comparable appointments at one or more external institutions be recognized as service time at UNCG for purposes of meeting the five-year minimum period for promotion. This full-time faculty appointment is renewable and includes benefits. When the North Carolina state legislature approves cost-of-living increases for state employees, professional-track faculty receive the same cost-of-living increases as tenure-track faculty.

Minimum Qualifications: Master of Music degree or equivalent professional experience in the music industry. Experience in the music industry in areas related to music production, recording, and technology. Ability to teach effectively, foster a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment at UNCG, and contribute to the ongoing mission of the School.

Preferred Qualifications
Interest and expertise within a broad set of music practices, styles, and genres that may include rap, hip-hop, folk, EDM, pop, R&B, rock, indie, gospel, jazz, and other forms of popular and commercial music. Sound design skills, ability to perform proficiently or expertly on a laptop, instrument, or voice, and expertise in entrepreneurship. Experience creating music for screen and/or working with live sound systems.
