Primary Purpose of Position | The Department of Computational Data Science and Engineering (CDSE) in the College of Engineering at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position preferably at the rank of Assistant Professor or Professor. Candidates at the Assosiate Professor rank will also be considered. The successful candidate is expected to engage and show leadership in teaching, research and service. Innovation and leadership in teaching and research, especially in the data sciences, and the ability to conduct scholarly research resulting in extramural funding must be demonstrated. In addition, the candidate is expected to regularly publish research results in refereed journal and conference publications. Based on a candidate's qualifications, appointment at a higher level may be considered. |

Primary Function of Organizational Unit | North Carolina A&T State University is a public land grant research university that enrolls over 13,300 students. The College of Engineering, with over 2,300 students, has 5 Doctoral programs, 8 Master of Science Degree programs, and 10 ABET-accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bio-, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as Computer Science. The Department of Computational Data Science and Engineering (CDSE) is an interdisciplinary Department which offers graduate programs at the MS and PhD levels, and is dedicated to the concept that computational approaches in data sciences, computing and numerical methods, and modeling and simulations are crucial to the advancement of all fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The Department is dedicated to providing leadership in computational approaches to all programs and colleges on campus. Its mission is to graduate professionals who (a) have expertise in developing novel computational methodologies and products, and/or (b) have extended their expertise in specific disciplines (in science, technology, engineering, socioeconomics, etc.)with computational tools. The CDSE curriculum and research are organized around a core consisting of three areas: (a) Data Sciences (DS), including data exploration, organization, manipulation, analytics, and visualization; (b) Computational and Numerical Approaches including scalable and super-computing, advanced hardware and software architectures; and Modeling and Simulation Approaches of systems in the various disciplines (such as physics, biology, chemistry, economics, etc.) as well as challenging interdisciplinary systems (e.g. large and complex, multi-scale, multi-physics, hybrid and heterogeneous systems). The CDSE Department is proud of its core and affiliated faculty, which includes more than 30 faculty members from more than 16 other departments who conduct research and advise MS and PhD students. |
Minimum Requirements | The successful candidate shall possess a Ph.D. in Computational or Data Science and Engineering or a closely related field, and shall possess knowledge and expertise in the core disciplines of data sciences, computational and numerical approaches, and modeling, visualization, and simulation. Evidence of expertise and scholarly achievement in the core disciplines, especially in the data science, is necessary. |
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education | Preference shall be given to candidates who provide evidence of leadership and strong scholarly achievement record in theoretical, computational, and statistical aspects of the data sciences, machine learning and artificial intelligence, computer vision, and the application thereof to real-world problems, especially in the energy sector and in digital twins, virtual and augmented reality Strong publication and funding records are sought, as well as evidence of personal, professional, and intellectual leadership. |
