The Department of Visual and Performing Arts, with award-winning programs in music, theater, and visual arts, invites applications for Part-Time Instructors for fall 2024 or summer 2024. Part-Time Instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester basis to teach courses such as "Introduction to Theater, "African American Drama I, "African American Drama II," "Acting for Non-Majors," "Music Appreciation" "Art Appreciation," "African American Art," "Basic Drawing," and "Design I.

The successful candidate is expected to teach introductory and advanced level courses by the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: teach face-to-face and/or online courses, attend training and/or review sessions. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to, academic advising of students, supporting student organizations, participating in program development and assessment. The candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the department and university.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Visual and Performing Arts provides students with exceptional professional programs, which combine development in artistic disciplines and career preparation in the arts. These programs are delivered through individualized and small-group instruction within a broad-based curriculum.

Each of our areas of study - , , and has a long and strong academic and performance history. From Afro-Caribbean Dance to Jazz Music, Classical Theatre and Graphic Design, our talented students are lead by gifted professors whose primary goal is excellence.

The department fosters creativity, exploration and discovery in students though inter-disciplinary collaboration and outreach inspiring growth, change and global awareness through the arts. Our faculty subscribe to the highest academic, artistic and ethical standards for themselves and their students.

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts supports over 300 undergraduate majors along with providing general education courses for the university.

Minimum Requirements
To teach Music courses, candidates must have a Master's degree or higher in Music at time of application. To teach Theater courses, candidates much have a Master's degree, or higher in Theater at time of application. To teach Visual Arts courses, the candidates must have a Master's degree or higher in Visual Arts or a related field at time of application.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Candidates with 1-3 years teaching experience at the University or Community College level. Evidence of a high level of artistic skill, cultural knowledge and creative accomplishment is expected. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to teach at the entry and intermediate undergraduate levels of study.
