The Site Lead/Site Lead/Safety Officer actively supports UAC and Company employees while upholding the Company's stated vision, mission, and values. Site Lead/Safety Officer carries out established HSE functions for assigned facilities including a variety of HSE and Emergency Response programs, training, and data collection activities. The Site Lead/Safety Officer ensures compliance with Federal, State, and contract-specific health and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines applicable to UAC and contract activities. The Site Lead/Safety Officer implements safety initiatives, conducts training, walkthroughs of facilities, identifies safety issues or lapses, recommends corrective actions to site management, and ensures corrective actions are executed in the interest of UAC and contract employees. The Site Lead/Safety Officer will report directly to the Program Director Resource Support and maintain an open line of communication informing the Program Director Resource Support of all safety issues, initiatives, meetings, corrective actions, and required follow-ups.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform safety and industrial hygiene duties as required to provide UAC and employees with a safe and healthful environment to live and work in, and to ensure compliance with applicable regulations as they apply to Risk Management, and Occupational Safety, Health, and Environmental impacts.
  • Facilitates and assists in the oversight of HSE and risk management initiatives across the area of responsibility and develops, implements, and tailors programs to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of company HSE policies and programs.
  • Assists with investigations and the management of claims, maintains Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) records, drafts, and reviews monthly reports, and collaborates with risk management.
  • Coordinates and conducts meetings with the Emergency Response Team and oversees drills and training.
  • Conduct safety, risk, and industrial hygiene field surveys and assessments to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, control, and resolve health and safety hazards in the workplace, to include physical hazards (noise, thermal stress, ergonomics, ionizing & non-ionizing radiation), and chemical/particulate/biological hazards (gases, vapors, mists, fumes, liquid, fibers & dust, bloodborne pathogens etc.). Assessments will include preparation of Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) with a focus on the health and welfare of UAC and employees.
  • Conduct accident/exposure investigations and prepare reports with preventative recommendations, as required.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all relevant Federal, State, and Local HSE regulations.
  • Conducts formal classroom safety & health training as required.
  • Facilitates Safety Committee meetings and guides members on committee goals (short term and long term), inclusive of the overall safety and well-being of both UAC and employees.
  • Collaborates with remote corporate safety team to ensure proper documentation of any recordable incidents, near misses, and present safety trends at all program department meetings.
  • Works with program security monitors and administration for video monitoring and extraction of footage regarding incidents involving personnel related to claims.
  • Responsible for ensuring root cause investigations are conducted, documented, and disseminated throughout corporate channels. Will assist with implementation and tracking until closure of resulting corrective and preventive actions. Corrective and preventive actions shall focus on continued safety and well-being of UAC and employees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • CPR certification, preferred - while we accept applicants without, all employees in service of this contract require CPR certification
  • Minimum of either:
    • A.S. degree in natural or physical science, safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field; or a safety certification(s) such as Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST.)
    • 5yrs of experience in industrial hygiene and/or safety, and a proven ability to implement/supervise safety and health programs may be used in lieu of a degree.
  • The following knowledge, skills and abilities are expected:
    • Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations, associated standards, and guidelines applicable to occupational safety and health (ANSI, ASHRAE, NIOSH)
    • Experience in the implementation of safe work practices, written compliance programs, and employee training programs
    • Basic knowledge of accident prevention and safety/industrial hygiene programs
    • Ability to conduct safety & health training classes.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills are required.
  • Proficiency with computer software and common office equipment is necessary.
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and management skills.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Clean Background Check
  • Clean Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) or child protective services check
  • Able to evacuate at short notice to possibly a different city for several days at a time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in natural or physical science, safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field.
  • 5 years of previous HSE/Industrial Hygiene experience.
  • Safety certification such as an Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST) or industry recognized safety certification.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • Able to withstand changing environmental conditions with weather (rain, lightning, extreme heat and winds).
  • May be exposed to strenuous, dangerous, or stressful conditions.
  • Use of PPE, gloves, helmets, respirators, and other personal protective and safety equipment to minimize the risk of illness and injury.
  • Able to withstand and manipulate through construction areas, sports fields, etc.
  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, or stoop for the entire duration of the shift, as necessary.
  • Able to communicate verbally and listen for constant surveillance of staff activities.
