The Educational Instructor/Teacher may be assigned to the classroom for educational services, or the residential life for dorm monitoring responsibilities, or to assist with recreational activities, in an on-site unaccompanied minor (UC) care facility or unaccompanied minor (UC) influx care facility. The teacher is responsible for the education and implementation of educational curriculum in the classroom and/or oversight of the assigned dorm population of UC during their stay at the care facility, as well as documenting educational student progress in the UC portal. Ensures contractual requirements and client expectations are met at the on-site care facility. Reports to the Lead Teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall safety and security of the children during school hours and off-site events.
  • Conduct an educational assessment of each UC to determine the child's academic level and any needs.
  • Adapt or modify local educational standards to develop curricula and assessments, in basic academic subjects, to include (Science, Social Studies, Math, Reading, Writing, acculturation to U.S., and Physical Education
  • Education, and English as a Second Language (ESL) if applicable)
  • Provide remedial education and after school tutoring as needed.
  • Provide educational services based on the individual academic development, literacy level, and linguistic ability of each unaccompanied child.
  • Maintain the UC educational case file and ORR (Office of Refugee Resettlement) Database in accordance with ORR policies and procedures.
  • Provides administrative assistance to the educational and residential life as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish must (Read, Write, Speak) fluently.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, or related field.
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) certification required
  • 1-3 years' experience providing education to children and adolescents within the range of K-12th grade
  • Must be able to multi-task, be detailed oriented, be organized, and have excellent verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with computer and common office equipment, as well as the MS Office products
  • Ability to work shift work, holidays, and weekends.
  • Meet the requirements of the contract for all immunizations (Emergency Task Order or Cooperative Agreement)
  • Able to evacuate at short notice to accompany unaccompanied minors to a different city for several days at a time.
  • Clean criminal background check, Child Abuse and Neglect (CA/N) or child protective services check.

Preferred

  • Hold an Educator/Teacher Certification, Emergency Educator/Teacher Certification, or Temporary Educator/Teacher Certification

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs.
  • Ability to lift up to 15lbs.
  • Visual acuity required to complete paperwork, computer work and direct line of sight supervision of staff.
  • Able to communicate verbally and listen for constant surveillance of staff activities
  • Able to withstand changing environmental conditions with weather (rain, lighting, extreme heat, and winds)
  • Able to withstand and manipulate through construction areas, sport fields, etc.
  • Ability to stand, particularly for sustained periods of time.
